An evening with improvised Noise Avantgarde, Experimental Post Jazz, Neo Rock and text collages after Christian Enzensberger’s „Smut: An Anatomy of Dirt“.
In 1968 Christian Enzensberger published his in the meantime almost forgotten text Smut: An Anatomy of Dirt which initially attracted a great public interest regardless of his almost experimental narrative style. Dirt as a definite metaphorical dimension of our political life is examined on numerous narrative levels exhibiting highest language skills and an obvious sense of frowning humor. Downright an invitation to face this today not only with means of musical text collage, sound art; but also with a pop-/ rock quotation as a reference to the 1968s, which has been transformed to fit present demands. For this project the duo 48nord and Patrick Schimanski have formed a constellation based on partnership that exposes a broad spectrum of experience in this field.
physical is the title of the new duo program by 48nord. Siegfried Rössert and Ulrich Müller take recourse to experiences collected in various compositions for contemporary dance. In physical, the corporeality however flows directly into the music: massive agglomerations of sound tower between finely graded, tonal zones of calm, making them almost palpable. Repetitive patterns, borrowed from jazz and rock music, are reminiscent of an urban dance in which nothing remains, but the tension in the space. At the intersection of contemporary composition, electronic music and improvisation, the two musicians of 48nord propel themselves in bold and virtuous passages to the limits of what is playable, the limits of the musically possible.
2004 in the George Lewis Octet at the SWR New Jazz Meeting, 48nord (Siegfried Roessert, electric and double Bass/live-electronics/composition and Ulrich Müller guitar/live-electronics/composition) played the first time together with the percussionist Guillermo E. Brown from New York. Guillermo E. Brown’s colorful and powerful play he is renowned for (e.g. at Matthew Shipp’s Power Jazz) and the complex soundscapes of 48nord complement perfectly one another and emerge a vital and exceptional project as demonstrated at the second collaboration (Trembling XXX). Now, the promising co-operation is continued in a compressed and concentrated formation, a trio.
Guillermo E. Brown, ist percussionist, singer und sound artist. On over 25 CDs and live in Europe and the USA he played, among others, with Matthew Shipp, Anthony Braxton, George Lewis, David S. Ware, Vernon Reid/DJ Logic's Yohimbe Brothers, William Parker, Cooper-Moore, Roy Campbell, DJ Spooky, El-P, Carl Hancock Rux, Mike Ladd, Vijay Iyer, Grisha Coleman, and Dave Burrell. 2003 he received the Van Lier scholarship of the Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center. He is associate professor at NYU's Clive Davis De-partment of Recorded Music and Gallatin School of Independent Study.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, 48nord presents ist new sextet under the name …schsch, a musical melting pot of noise rock, experimental avant-garde and Jazz. With …schsch, 48nord ties up to the project Killing Range the Sueddeutsche Zeitung wrote about: “brute, urban, tampering with the boundaries between extreme structure and improvisation”. For …schsch, 48nord assembled musical companions of many years and friends and just a quick glance at the producing of the six musicians shows the wide sprectrum of this new formation.
